Introduction North Dakota is the 48th state among the 50 states of United States. North Dakota is located Midwestern region of United States. North Dakota was admitted to the U.S. union in 1889 as the 39th state. As per North Dakota’s constitution there exist three branches of government- executive, judicial and legislative. The executive branch is headed by the Governor of North Dakota assisted by the lieutenant governor of North Dakota, both elected for four-year term. The governor is the only state public official elected statewide; while all other officers are elected by the citizens. The executive authority rests with the Governor of North Dakota. The legislation of North Dakota is bicameral consisting of Senate members and House of Representatives. Each district having one senator and two representatives and both are elected for four-year term. North Dakota judicial authority has four courts. Municipal courts serve city, while most cases start in district courts, appeals are heard in North Dakota Court of Appeals and the highest court is the North Dakota Supreme Court comprising of five justices.
