Introduction The capital of North Dakota, Bismarck is the seat of Burleigh County and part of the metropolitan statistical area that also includes Mandan. Bismarck is not a very attractive city but it is a center for outdoor adventures, from hiking and canoeing to mountain biking and boating and also offers some of the finest fishing and hunting opportunities in the country. It is also recognized as the region's business, cultural, and financial center.
Bismarck is located on the east bank of the Missouri River in south-central North Dakota. North Dakota enjoys a continental climate with fairly uniform weather throughout. Winters are long and severe; summers are short but favorable for agriculture because of the long hours of sunshine. It receives an average annual rainfall of 15.47 inches and snowfall of 44 inches.
