Introduction Minot is located on the Souris River and named after the official of Great Northern Railroad, H.D. Minot. It is a city in Ward County and the fourth largest city in North Dakota.
Minot is about 170 km (100 mi) north of Bismarck, 300 km (200 mi) west of Grand Forks and 400 km (250 mi) northwest of Fargo and southeast of Regina, Saskatchewan.
Minot covers a total area of 37.7 km² (14.6 mi²) and is entirely land. The Souris River, also known as the Mouse River, divides the city approximately in half, north and south. The valley rises to the plains both north and south of the river. The weather is seasonal with dry summer and cold winters. The fall is beautiful with the changing of the leaf colors into beautiful reds and oranges. The city receives an average annual snowfall of 26 inches.
